LEICESTER City, the club of Super Eagles of Nigeria stars Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, have been promoted back to the English Premier League.
The Foxes were not in action tonight but Queens Park Rangers’ 4-0 victory over Leeds United ensured that the Championship leaders will finish at least in second place and secure one of the two automatic promotion slots.
Ilias Chair, Lucas Andersen, Lyndon Dykes and Sam Fields struck for QPR at Loftus Road as their big win achieved two aims.
Apart from ensuring Leicester City’s promotion to the top flight after a season in the second-tier, the result also helped guarantee QPR’s safety from relegation to League One.
Leicester City are four points clear of third-placed Leeds United, who have only one match left in the regular season.
Fourth-placed Southampton also cannot catch up with Leicester City as there are 10 points between them, with the Saints having two games left.
QPR are 17th in the 24-team table, seven points clear of 22nd-placed Birmingham, who have two matches left.
Ndidi has played an important role in Leicester City’s immediate return to the Premier League, playing 30 matches and registering four goals and five assists from midfield despite having problems with injuries.
On his part, Iheanacho has struggled to get starts in Enzo Maresca’s side, making 22 appearances (only 10 of them in the starting line-up) and contributing five goals and one assist.
