IGA Swiatek cruised past Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-1 in the women’s singles final of the French Open today to win her third consecutive Roland Garros title.
World No.1 Swiatek produced a dominant display against Italian 12th seed Paolini, a first-time Grand Slam finalist, and the Pole needed just 68 minutes to secure a fourth crown in five years in Paris.
Swiatek has now won all five Grand Slam finals she has featured in. Her other victory came at the 2022 US Open.
The 23-year-old is the fourth woman in the Open era to lift the title at Roland Garros four times — after Justine Henin, Chris Evert and Steffi Graf.
Swiatek also becomes only the third woman to win the tournament three years running. Henin, in 2005 to 2007, was the last to do so. Monica Seles also achieved the feat as a teenager at the start of the 1990s.
At 23, Swiatek’s four Roland Garros titles is the same number Rafael Nadal, the record 14-time men’s singles champion, had at the same age.
Before her capitulation today, 28-year-old world No.15 Paolini had had an excellent tournament, reaching her first-ever Major final.
