THE Ebonyi State Police Command has apprehended four suspects in connection with the alleged abduction and murder of Magnus Okeke, a student of Alex Ekwueme Federal University in Ndufu Alike, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police Command, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the motives behind the student’s killing.

He mentioned that the suspects are currently being questioned to ascertain whether the incident was a ransom kidnapping, a homicide, or related to cult activities.

The university management, through its Public Relations Officer Elom Ubochi, disclosed in a press release that they collaborated closely with law enforcement agencies upon learning of the student’s abduction, striving to secure his safe return.

Unfortunately, all rescue attempts were unsuccessful, leading to the discovery of the victim’s decomposed body beneath the Akọ stream bridge in Nwakpu village along the Ikwo/Abakaliki road on the 17th of June 2024, two weeks after his disappearance.

Preliminary reports from security authorities indicated that youths from Ohankwu village are the alleged perpetrators of the tragic event.

Ubochi clarified that there was no cult-related conflict on the university premises that resulted in the student’s demise, contrary to speculations.

He encouraged individuals with relevant information to come forward and aid the ongoing investigation.

The deceased student, Magnus Okeke, was a student in the Department of Accountancy and went missing on the 1st of June 2024 while returning to his private hostel in Ohankwu village, Ndufu-Alike community.
