WILFRED Ndidi expressed his pleasure today after signing a new contract with Leicester City.
The Super Eagles midfielder’s previous deal with Leicester City expired on June 30 and he was free to switch to another club on a free transfer.
However, despite a slew of offers from across Europe, the 27-year-old Nigeria international opted to negotiate a new deal with the Foxes, with whom he was promoted back to the English Premier League last season.
The 2015/2016 Premier League champions confirmed the new three-year contract today.
“Long-serving Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has signed a new deal with the Football Club, keeping him at King Power Stadium until at least June 2027, subject to Premier League approval,” the club announced on their official website.
“Since joining from Belgian side Genk in January 2017, the Nigeria international has lifted the Emirates FA Cup, FA Community Shield and most recently, the Championship title with the Club. His new contract would extend his stay at Leicester City beyond a decade.
“The tough tackling and combative midfielder, who was a key part of the team that won promotion to the Premier League as Championship winners last season, has made 273 appearances for City in all competitions, scoring 17 goals.”
Speaking to LCFC.com, Ndidi said: “I feel great, I feel excited, I feel at home. That’s the most important thing. I feel really happy to continue with the Club.
“My family is settled here and everyone back home, when they say Ndidi, they say Leicester also! It’s really amazing to be a part of this journey going forward.”
Ndidi joined Leicester City from Genk in January 2017 for around €18m and has been one of the club’s most important players since, making 273 appearances in seven-and-a-half years at the club.
