MOROCCO have advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s football event of the Paris 2024 Olympics after a 4-0 demolition of the United States of America at the Parc de Princes in the French capital today.
Soufiane Rahimi, Ilias Akhomach, Achraf Hakimi and Mehdi Maouhoub struck as the Africans eased to their first-ever Olympic semi-final.
Centre forward Rahimi, who has been one of the best players at the Paris 2024 Games, got the Morocco party started in the 29th with a goal from the penalty spot.
It was the prolific Rahimi’s fifth goal of the tournament, making him the top scorer so far.
USA did not immediately fall apart after conceding, battling to get back on level terms as the first half ended 1-0.
The USA resistance lasted until just past the hour mark when Akhomach doubled Morocco’s lead.
Captain Hakimi made it 3-0 in the 70th minute and substitute Maouhoub completed the rout in stoppage time with another penalty.
Morocco will face either Japan or Spain in Monday’s semi-final in Marseille.
