EDO: UNIBEN students trapped as three-storey building collapses in Ekosodin

SEVERAL students from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) were trapped when a three-story building collapsed in Ekosodin this morning.

Ekosodin, which borders the University of Benin, houses a significant student population.

The building, located on Ekhator Street in Benin City, collapsed following heavy rainfall in the early hours of the morning.

According to reports, while some of the trapped students have been rescued, efforts to find others are still underway.

The Dean of Student Affairs is reportedly at the site, coordinating rescue operations alongside the university team.

A student on the scene revealed that the university’s rescue team successfully evacuated some occupants, though many sustained severe injuries.

The injured victims have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

“The rescue team is still searching for a victim who called for help from inside the rubble. Efforts to locate and rescue her and others still trapped continue,” the student said.

As of the time of reporting, the university management has not yet issued an official statement about the cause of the collapse or the total number of those affected.
