SUNDAY September 15 was homecoming for the Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka as he reconnected to his root, Isara-Remo, Ogun State, from which he is reported to have been physically disconnected for a long time.
On the visit, however, Soyinka, the Akogun of Isara, was said to have “paid homage” to his father’s hometown, and was received at about 10.30am by the traditional ruler of the town, His Royal Highness Oba Albert Adebose Mayungbe Erinsiba III, the Odemo of Isara.

“The Odemo of Isara had assembled five of Isara High Chiefs — Chief VK Onamiyiwa, the Lisa of Isara, Chief Sodade, Oluwo of Isara, Chief Soyombo, Apena of Isara Remo, Chief Kolapo, Solo of Isara, Chief Aweri, Basegun and the illustrious son of the land, Otunba (Chief) Sobowale to receive the guests that were led by Bld. Kunle Awobodu, who facilitated the Wole Soyinka family coming to Isara in July to celebrate the 90th Birthday of Prof. Wole Soyinka.
“His eldest son, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka was also on the entourage. Eulogies were rendered to Prof. Soyinka for his contributions to the development of the town, especially in the area of road rehabilitation, hospital upgrading by his son Dr. Olaokun, his parents contributions to Church growth and educational emancipation were also part of the reminiscences.

“The Akogun of Isara presented the Odemo with some selected books authored by him with some bottles of wine.
“After taken some pictures with the Odemo, he was shown the one acre land that Isara gave him at Obalende close to the Nigeria Police Traffic Division.
He was conducted round the Odemo Palace by the assigned chiefs before visiting the cemetery of his parents where he had a solemn prayer session.
“Thereafter, the Reverend of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Isara prayed for the family generally. From there, the entourage moved to Soyinka’s family house before he departed.
