SUPER EAGLES head coach Austin Eguavoen was a relieved man after the 1-0 victory over Libya in yesterday’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Uyo.
The Libyans were ultra-defensive and deployed time-wasting antics to frustrate Eguavoen and his team at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium until substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scored the only goal of the game late on.
“It’s a huge win for me and the boys obviously. Three points was important and we got it, I wanted us to score more goals but for some reasons, we did not get to find the back of the net early enough because of the tactics the Libyans deployed,” Eguavoen said in his post-match interview.
“But overall, we are very happy three points and still maintain the top position in our group.”
The Super Eagles remain on top of AFCON qualifying Group D with seven points from three matches, one ahead of Benin Republic, who defeated Rwanda 3-0 yesterday in their adopted Cote d’Ivoire home.
Rwanda are third with two points and Libya are bottom with one.
Nigeria face Libya again on Tuesday, this time in Benghazi.
