THE Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf has submitted a budget proposal of N549 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly for approval.
During his presentation of the budget, titled “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development,” yesterday in Kano, Yusuf emphasized that the budget aims to enhance the wellbeing of the state’s residents.
The budget allocates N312 billion for capital expenditure and N236 billion for recurrent expenditure. Yusuf stated that once approved, the budget is expected to have a capital to recurrent expenditure ratio of 57:43 percent.
He noted that a significant portion of the capital spending, amounting to N461 billion, will be directed toward the Social and Economic sectors.
In particular, he highlighted that the Education Sector is set to receive a substantial allocation of N168 billion, exceeding UNESCO and UN recommendations, which accounts for 31 percent of the budget. The Health Sector has been allocated N90 billion, representing 16.5 percent of the overall budget.
Yusuf also indicated that N21 billion, or 3.83 percent of the budget, has been designated for the Agricultural Sector, while Infrastructure Development will receive N70 billion, making up 12.87 percent of the budget.
Additionally, he specified that N23 billion, or 4 percent, is earmarked for Security, Justice, and Emergency Services, and N27 billion, or 4.96 percent, will be dedicated to Water Supply and Rural Development.
The governor called on lawmakers to expedite the budget’s passage, allowing the government to continue delivering democratic benefits to the populace.
In response, Speaker Jibrin Falgore assured the governor of a prompt passage to facilitate a January to December budget cycle. He also praised the governor for his progress in infrastructure development, security, health, and education initiatives.
