THE Nigerian military announced that troops from Operation Fansan Yamma have neutralised Aminu Kanawa, the second-in-command to notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji, following the recent military offensive against terrorists in the North West on January 20 and 21, 2025,
In a statement released today by Defence Director Edward Buba, it was revealed that the troops also inflicted critical injuries on several of Turji’s close associates, including Dosso (Bello Turji’s younger brother) and Danbokolo (one of Turji’s closest allies).
The military further reported the neutralization of several key commanders within Bello Turji’s ranks, including Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe, among others.
Additionally, over 24 fleeing terrorists from Bello Turji’s camp in the Gebe and Isa local government areas of Sokoto State, as well as around Gidan Rijiya in Shinkafi local government area of Zamfara State, were also neutralized, according to the statement.
The statement added, “Troops also eliminated another prominent terrorist during the assault on Bello Turji’s enclave near Fakai high ground. This individual, identified as Suleiman, was a loyalist of the late notorious terrorist leader Halilu Sububu. Suleiman was leading a reinforcement team to assist Bello Turji’s camp when he was killed during the engagement.”
The loss of Turji’s second-in-command, along with his close associates and commanders, represents a significant setback for the terrorist network in North West Nigeria, impacting their military and operational capabilities.
This group has been responsible for numerous kidnappings and terrorist activities across the region, particularly in the Zurmi, Shinkafi, Isa, and Sabon Birni local government areas of Zamfara and Sokoto states.
Buba emphasized that the Nigerian army remains committed to completely dismantling these terrorist groups, maintaining that their operations aim to ensure safety and security for all citizens.
