U-19 Cricket World Cup: Nigeria advance despite defeat to South Africa

 

DESPITE losing to South Africa in their final Group C fixture today, Nigeria have qualified for the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Super Six round.

The Nigerian Junior Yellow Greens lost to South Africa by 41 runs in Malaysia, days after the West Africans’ historic victory over New Zealand.

However, the team finished second on three points to advance to the next round.

South Africa topped the group with six points after recording their third win, while New Zealand also advanced after beating Samoa.

In the Super Six, Group 2, Nigeria will take on England on Saturday, before facing Ireland next Wednesday.

Group 1 has six teams and Group 2 also has six teams.

The top team and runners-up in each of the groups will qualify for the semi-finals.
