IN a bid to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to human rights, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has approved the expansion of gender-based violence (GBV) desk offices to all police divisions across the country.
This initiative aims to enhance efficiency, improve service delivery, and facilitate easier access to justice for citizens.
According to a statement by Force spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi, GBV desk offices were previously available only at zonal and state commands but will now be established at the divisional level to ensure prompt, specialized, and professional handling of GBV cases.
To support this expansion, the IGP has directed the appointment of qualified officers as GBV desk officers.
These officers will undergo specialized training to equip them with the necessary skills, knowledge, and expertise for handling such cases effectively.
Adejobi further stated that divisional GBV desk officers will also be responsible for overseeing the Juvenile, Women, and Children (JWC) section in their respective divisions.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to adopt a comprehensive approach to tackling gender-based violence, providing a supportive environment for victims, and ensuring swift justice.
