SUPER Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has been declared unavailable for the friendly against Portugal in Leiria on Wednesday.
The centre-back sustained an injury during the team’s training session yesterday, ruling him out of the high-profile friendly match.
According to Super Eagles media, team doctors suspect Ogbu’s injury is serious, as he might have ruptured his left achilles tendon.
Slavia Prague defender Ogbu made his Super Eagles debut in July 2025 and has made 12 appearances, including last week’s 2-2 draw with Poland.
The 26-year-old could be out for up to six months or even longer and could require surgery if the initial diagnosis is confirmed.
The Super Eagles are up against World Cup-bound Portugal on Wednesday in what will be the three-time African champions’ final match of the summer, as they failed to qualify for the global tournament scheduled to kick off on Thursday.
Portugal, who are in 2026 World Cup Group K with Democratic Republic of Congo, Uzbekistan and Colombia, defeated Chile 2-1 in a friendly last night.
