Alhassan Yusuf has been rewarded for his stellar performances in Belgium by Royal Antwerp, who named him their best player for August.

The Nigerian was last night announced as the club’s Player of the Month for August, beating his teammates in a poll to claim the prize.

He was voted ahead of Vincent Jansen and Michel-Ange Balikwisha, who are both forwards, and goalkeeper Jean Burtez.

Yusuf was the standout player for Royal Antwerp as they climbed to the top of the Belgian Pro League table in August.

They have remarkably won all their seven league matches this season, including four in August against Leuven, KAS Eupen, Gent and Union Saint-Gilloise, with Yusuf playing every minute of those games.

He contributed two assists in the August wins, in the 4-2 home victory over Leuven and the 2-1 triumph at Gent.

Yusuf also started all six of Royal Antwerp’s UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying round matches, although they failed to reach the group stage.

He is expected to be the first name on the Royal Antwerp team sheet when they face Cercle Brugge tomorrow.
