Ekiti govt warns against consumption of looted maize at Erifun

EKITI State’s Agriculture and Food Security Commissioner, Dr Olabode Adetoyi, has sent out an appeal to hoodlums who looted some warehouse in the State’s capital on Wednesday, carting away chemically treated maize, which they mistook for Covid-19 palliatives, to return same immediately.

The hoodlums had exploited the mayhem that trailed the #EndSARS protests and descended on silos Erifun, where they looted and carted away maize meant for planting but which had been processed with chemicals that are dangerous for human consumption.

Recounted Adetoyi, “Something scary happened mid-week as the #EndSARS protests were hijacked by miscreants. They attacked the silos of Erifun and made away with chemically treated maize meant for planting. Danger is looming!”

Adetoyi continued, “If such grains find their way into the market, people may start to drop dead. That is why the state government has sent out a timely warning to avert disaster waiting to happen.”

Reiterating the danger consumption of the looted goods may throw the state into, the commissioner explained, “Some are even making away with corns preserved for planting, with chemical pre-fermentation. All these items are poisonous and not fit for consumption! We appeal to our people not to consume these items because they can kill.

“Ekiti State has no Covid-19 Palliatives warehouse as all palliatives have been distributed to members of the public during the lockdown period. Danger is looming! There shall be no untimely death in Ekiti state as a whole. Amen Regards!” Adetoyi said.
