Ex-Ogun Governor, Gbenga Daniel, defects to APC

FORMER Governor of the state, Gbenga Daniel, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Daniel made his defection known on Tuesday.

He said his decision to decamp became necessary following his support for Governor Dapo Abiodun, adding that it took a speedy curve with the request of the national caretaker Chairman of the APC to visit him along with three governors.

”Dear Friends & Colleagues, pardon my short notice in informing you of my route to the APC which as you might have suspected started with my supporting Governor, Dapo Abiodun during the last election.

”I have since experienced an avalanche of encouragement to come on board.

“However in the last 48 hours, things took a dizzying speed with the decision of the APC National Chairman’s request to visit me at Asoludero on Wednesday with about 3 Governors. While planning for the visit, Governor Abiodun also decided to visit me later today with another set of Governors. It, therefore, mean that I have finally been ‘captured’.

“I thought I should quickly brief the house before the news go viral. Thanks for your understanding.”

According to a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday by the former governor’s Media consultant,  Steve Oliyide,  no fewer than five governors elected on the platform of the APC will be at Sagamu, Ogun State home to welcome Daniel to the ruling party.

Gbenga Daniel, who defeated the incumbent Governor Olusegun Osoba of the Alliance For Democracy, was elected on the platform of the PDP in 2003 as governor of Ogun State.

He was reelected as governor in 2007.

He also served as the  Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council for the 2019 elections.

According to available information, Daniel’s official declaration and registration for the APC will hold at Isote Ward in Sagamu Local Government Area of the state anytime from 12 noon on Tuesday (today) when the APC Governors would have concluded their meeting with him.

In an invitation sent to the media for the coverage of the visit of the APC Governors on Wednesday (tomorrow) and Daniel’s registration for the party on Tuesday (today), those listed as part of the team are the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the party and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni; Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai; Governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; and Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.

The Wednesday event, scheduled for Daniel’s Asoludero Court in Sagamu, will see the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, leading the visiting Governors on the visit.
