Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah won the women’s 100 metres gold medal tonight at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games as Team Nigeria’s Rosemary Chukwuma and Grace Nwokocha failed to make the podium.

Global superstar Thompson-Herah, who has won multiple Olympics and World Athletics Championships gold medals, clinched her first-ever individual Commonwealth Games gold tonight with a 10.95 seconds finish.

Julien Alfred of St Lucia claimed silver in 11.01s, while home girl Daryll Neita of England bagged bronze in 11.07s.

Team Nigeria pair, Chukwuma and Nwokocha, finished fourth and fifth respectively in the tight race.

Chukwuma clocked 11.17s, with Nwokocha just behind her in 11.18s.

In the men’s high jump final, Team Nigeria’s Mike Edwards was not close to the podium, finishing eighth.

The 2019 Big Brother Nigeria star cleared 2.19m, well short of the 2.25m cleared by New Zealand’s Hamish Kerr and Australia’s Brandon Starc.

Kerr won the gold medal on countback, with Starc taking silver and India’s Tejaswin Shankar claiming bronze with a 2.22m jump.
