There were wins for Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain tonight as the UEFA Champions League matchday one for this season continued.

Also tonight, Noah Okafor was on target for RB Salzburg as they played a 1-1 home draw with Italian champions AC Milan.

Champions Real Madrid got the defence of their title off to a great start with a 3-0 win over Celtic in Glasgow.

Although their main striker Karim Benzema limped off after just 30 minutes, Real Madrid were ruthless, with Vinicius Junior, Luka Modric and Eden Hazard scoring in the second half to silence Celtic Park.

In Spain, Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City opened their Champions League campaign by thrashing Sevilla 4-0 at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Haaland’s ninth goal in five games set the English champions on their way in the 20th minute, and the Norwegian added to his tally after the break, while Phil Foden scored in between the prolific striker’s goals.

Ruben Dias wrapped up the scoring in injury time as City raced to the top of Group G, ahead of Borussia Dortmund on goal difference.

In France, Paris Saint-Germain resisted a late rally from Juventus to defeat the Italian side 2-1.

Kylian Mbappe netted both goals for the Ligue 1 champions in the first half, while United States of America midfielder Weston McKennie pulled one back for Juventus eight minutes after the restart.

Serie A champions AC Milan needed to come from behind to avoid defeat at Red Bull Salzburg as the Group E encounter ended in a 1-1 draw.

Switzerland striker with Nigerian heritage Noah Okafor gave the Austrian side the lead in the 28th minute but new signing Alexis Saelemaekers equalised for Milan five minutes before the break.

Both sides could not find the winning goal in the second half and they shared the points to jointly stay in second in Group E, two points behind early leaders Dinamo Zagreb, with Chelsea bottom of the table.

In the other late fixture tonight, Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk stunned their hosts RB Leipzig 4-1 to go top of Group E, ahead of Real Madrid on goals scored.
