Tobi Amusan has retained her World Athletics Diamond League 100 metres hurdles title after winning the final in Zurich, Switzerland today.
The Nigerian sprint hurdler beat a strong field that included Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and former world record holder Kendra Harrison to win the race in 12.29 seconds.
Amusan’s time is also the new Zurich Diamond League 100m hurdles record, breaking the 12.39 seconds set by the legendary Gail Devers 22 years ago.
The 25-year-old Nigerian star has been in sensational form this year, breaking the 100m hurdles world record with a 12.12 second run and winning the title at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States of America in July.
She also retained her Commonwealth gold medal with a new Games record in Birmingham in August, when she joined the women’s 4x100m team to win gold and set a new African record.
In Zurich today, Amusan was trailed to the finish line by Tia Jones of the USA in 12.40s.
Jamaica’s Brittany Anderson was third in 12.42s, while Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, who beat Amusan in another Diamond League race two weeks ago, finished fourth in 12.49s.
