There were mixed fortunes for Nigerian forwards over the weekend in Europe, with some scoring and one sustaining an injury.
Moses Simon and Anthony Ujah were both on target in France and Germany respectively.
However, Umar Sadiq got injured and could join Victor Osimhen in missing the Super Eagles’ friendly against Algeria in Oran on September 27.
Simon scored Nantes’ second goal in their 3-2 Ligue 1 defeat at Lorient, who also had Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi and midfielder Innocent Bonke in their starting line-up.
It was the third goal in five Ligue 1 appearances for in-form Simon this season for struggling Nantes, who are stuck in 15th spot with six points from seven matches.
Moffi, who has scored five Ligue 1 goals this season, was not among the scorers for Lorient yesterday and he lasted 73 minutes, 15 more than Bonke.
In Germany, veteran striker Ujah, 31, scored his second goal in six Bundesliga 2 (German second division) appearances as his Eintracht Braunschweig side held Hannover to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
Yesterday in Spain, Sadiq was once again withdrawn early for the second game in a row for Real Sociedad.
The Super Eagles striker was on the pitch for only 38 minutes before he was taken off and replaced by Mohamed-Ali Cho as Real Sociedad lost 2-1 at Getafe.
Sadiq had also been taken off at half-time last Thursday when Real Sociedad defeated Manchester United 1-0 in a UEFA Europa League clash at Old Trafford.
Sunday’s knock could be an aggravation of Thursday’s injury and Sadiq could be the second Super Eagles centre forward to be ruled out of the friendly against Algeria, after Osimhen got injured for Napoli against Liverpool on Wednesday.
