Ademola Lookman was the hero for Atalanta tonight as they defeated Fiorentina to go joint-top of the Serie A table.
The Super Eagles forward scored the only goal of the match in the 59th minute to keep Atalanta unbeaten in their eight matches in the Italian top flight this season.
Lookman, who joined Atalanta this summer from RB Leipzig, has now scored two goals and provided one assist to fuel his side to 20 points, the same as Victor Osimhen’s Napoli.
In another Serie A contest involving Nigerian players today, Cremonese, who have Cyriel Dessers and David Okereke in their squad, got their third point of the season as they drew 1-1 at Lecce.
Okereke was in the starting line-up and was in action for 74 minutes, while Dessers came off the bench for the final 25 minutes.
It is the first time Dessers would be benched since he joined the Serie A newcomers, having started the previous seven times. He is yet to score but has one assist.
In France, there were mixed fortunes for Terem Moffi and Moses Simon as Lorient won and Nantes lost.
Moffi, who scored the Super Eagles’ goal in the 2-1 friendly defeat to Algeria on Tuesday night, failed to add to his six Ligue 1 strikes but played for 86 minutes to help Lorient to a 2-1 win over Lille.
The other Nigerian at Lorient, Innocent Bonke, was brought on for the last 21 minutes.
On his part, Simon played for 65 minutes for Nantes as they were thrashed 4-1 by Monaco.
In Germany, Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma, who also featured against Algeria, was a late substitute for Hoffenheim in their 1-1 Bundesliga draw away to Hertha Berlin.
His Super Eagles colleague Chidera Ejuke supplied the assist for Hertha Berlin’s goal, which was scored by Dodi Lukebakio in the 37th minute.
The assist is the third for Ejuke in eight Bundesliga games this season.
