Osimhen fires Napoli past Roma as Onuachu bags another brace

Victor Osimhen scored a late goal tonight as Napoli continued their winning streak in Serie A and kept their place at the top of the table.

Napoli defeated Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome to open up a three-point gap at the summit over Atalanta.

Super Eagles striker Osimhen secured the tough away win for Napoli 10 minutes from time when he volleyed the ball in from an acute angle.

Osimhen has now scored in the three games he has played since returning from injury, while Napoli have now won 11 matches in a row in all competitions for the second time in their history since 1929/1930.

Atalanta, with Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman in their starting line-up, lost pace in the title race earlier in the night when they were beaten 2-0 at home by Lazio.

The Rome-based club bagged a comfortable win and overtook a flat Atalanta in the table with goals from Mattia Zaccagni and Felipe Anderson.

Maurizio Sarri’s side have now gone six games without conceding in the league; the last time they conceded was on September 3 in their 2-1 home loss against Napoli.

In Belgium, Nigeria striker Paul Onuachu continued his rich vein of form with yet another brace tonight.

The towering striker scored twice as KRC Genk beat Royal Antwerp 3-1 away from home in their Jupiler Pro League encounter.

It is Onuachu’s third brace in his last five matches, and he has scored in each of those games, taking his tally to eight goals in that very productive period.

Nigerian midfielder Alhassan Yusuf played the full match for Royal Antwerp, who fell four points behind leaders Genk in the table.
