Arsenal’s Pablo Mari returns to training weeks after stabbing

ARSENAL defender Pablo Mari, who is on loan at Monza, is back in training with the Italian club six weeks after he was stabbed in an Italian supermarket.

Mari, 29, was shopping with his wife and son on October 27 when a man grabbed a knife from a shelf at a shopping centre near Milan and went on a rampage.

Six people were attacked with one tragically dying.

The Brazilian defender underwent surgery to reconstruct two injured muscles in his back at Milan’s Niguarda Hospital on the night of the stabbing.

Following the incident Mari, who joined Arsenal from Brazilian club Flamengo in January 2020, said he felt ‘lucky’ to have escaped life-threatening injuries and death.

“Back with the team. Step by step,” Mari tweeted last night, with pictures of him during a training session.

Supermarket employee Luis Fernando Ruggieri, 47, died in the aftermath of the incident in Milan. Another employee was left injured along with four customers, including Mari.

Mari played 19 times for Arsenal before joining Udinese on loan at the start of 2022.

He was then loaned to newly promoted Serie A club Monza in August.

He had made eight appearances for Monza and scored once before the stabbing.
