2023: Prepare for the worst, Buhari tells potential successor

PRESIDENT Buhari, yesterday, narrated his experience as a former Head of State and serving President and advised anyone desirous of becoming Nigeria’s leader to brace for the worst.

Buhari predicated his admonition on the challenges he encountered in fighting corruption as President and how he was treated after his military regime was overthrown in August 1985.

“If you want to serve this country you must be prepared for the worst,’ he at a banquet organised in his honour by the Yobe State Government in Damaturu.

The President, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, added that in spite of the challenges in tackling corruption, he was pleased that “no one could blackmail him of inexplicable wealth and illicit enrichment while in office.”

‘‘I do not have one square inch outside Nigeria,’’ he said. He also restated his vow to continue to serve God and Nigeria until his last day in office and beyond.
