VICTOR Osimhen scored his 22nd Serie A goal tonight as Napoli earned a 1-1 draw at Udinese to win the Italian top flight title for the first time since 1990.
The Super Eagles striker struck Napoli’s equaliser from close range in the 52nd minute to cancel out Sandi Lovric’s 13th minute goal for Udinese.
Osimhen’s goal sent the city of Naples into a frenzy, with thousands of fans watching on a big monitor at Napoli’s home ground, the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Napoli needed a point to confirm them as champions, as they started the night 15 points ahead of second-placed Lazio, who have only five games left.
Napoli had only won the Scudetto twice before tonight, both coming in the days of the legendary Diego Maradona in 1987 and 1990, and Osimhen is now the new hero of Neapolitans.
The Nigeria international has now also scored more Serie A goals this season than any African player has ever managed in an Italian top-flight campaign.
He broke the previous record of 21 set by Samuel Eto’o when the Cameroonian was playing for Inter Milan in the 2010/2011 season.
