VICTOR Osimhen has insisted that Napoli were not given a chance to win the Serie A title at the beginning of the season.

The Nigeria international has scored 22 goals so far this season to steer the club to their first Scudetto in 33 years, and fittingly netted their goal in last night’s 1-1 draw at Udinese that sealed the title.

“I am overwhelmed right now. It’s an amazing feeling,” Osimhen told DAZN amid the celebrations.

“We’ve waited so many years for this moment, and to be able to deliver the Scudetto to the Neapolitans is something we will never forget.”

Last night’s draw took Napoli’s tally to 80 points, 16 more than second-placed Lazio, with five games left to play.

Visiting supporters at the capacity Stadio Friuli held aloft banners adorned with the image of the late Diego Maradona, the inspiration behind Napoli’s previous Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990.

Napoli fans rushed onto the pitch to celebrate the historic occasion alongside the players at the final whistle.

Osimhen said nobody expected them to beat the likes of Juventus and the Milan giants to the title.

“We were the underdogs at the start of the season. Not many believed in us and so many people wrote us off,” the Super Eagles striker noted.

“We believed from the start of the season that we have this great squad that can deliver the Scudetto.”

With last night’s strike, Osimhen became the African with the most goals in a single Serie A campaign, surpassing Samuel Eto’o who scored 21 for Inter Milan in the 2010/2011 season.
