Osimhen nets brace, has more goals than two previous seasons combined

VICTOR Osimhen was on target again today, scoring twice for Napoli in their 2-2 Serie A draw at Bologna.

The Nigeria international steered the champions to a 2-0 lead before their hosts fought back to rescue a point.

Osimhen opened the scoring in the 14th minute, tapping home into an unguarded net after Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski inexplicably passed the ball straight to him inside the box.

The Super Eagles striker doubled Napoli’s advantage nine minutes into the second half, finishing off Bartosz Bereszynski’s assist for his 25th Serie A goal of his most prolific campaign ever.

Bologna fought back with a 62nd minute strike from Lewis Ferguson and a Lorenzo De Silvestri goal six minutes from time.

This season, Osimhen has now scored one more league goal than he did in his two previous Serie A campaigns combined (10 in 2020/2021, 14 in 2021/2022).

The 24-year-old Nigerian is also heading towards the Serie A top scorer award, as his closest challenger, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, has 21 goals with one round of games left.
