Osimhen wants to stay at Napoli, new manager Garcia claims

NAPOLI manager Rudi Garcia is confident Victor Osimhen will not leave the club during this transfer window.

The Super Eagles striker has been linked with several European giants since last season, but Garcia has claimed the Nigeria international is not pushing for a move.

The Serie A champions have started their pre-season training camp in Dimaro, working towards the 2023/2024 campaign, which kicks off in August.

Napoli have already lost sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli to Juventus and Kim Min-Jae is on the verge of being sold to Bayern Munich but other stars like Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will stay, according to Garcia, who replaced Luciano Spalletti at the end of last season.

When asked about the future of Osimhen during his press conference yesterday, the Frenchman said: “Of course I have spoken to him. I can assure you that he wants to stay, he is happy to be with us and still wants to do great things.”

Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia were the major factors in Napoli’s Serie A triumph last season as they ended a 33-year wait for the title, and Garcia is keen to keep both of his stars.

“I hope the two of them will continue to make a difference and help us win, but I am careful not to put too many individuals in front of the collective. Everyone is important here.”

Garcia, whose last job was at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, expects Osimhen and the other players involved in international duty and given extended breaks to return from Monday.

“They will arrive next week. They won’t play the first friendly, but they’ll be at the second one. Time is a bit tight, we will have to focus on many things. The first thing is to get the players in good shape.”
