FIFAWWC: Three key Australia stars to miss Super Falcons clash

AUSTRALIA will be without three of their most important players when they face Nigeria’s Super Falcons in a 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup clash in Brisbane tomorrow.

The Matildas already missed their talismanic captain Sam Kerr for their opening Group B 1-0 win over Republic of Ireland last Thursday and the Chelsea striker will not be available tomorrow.

Australia’s all-time leading scorer will be joined on the sidelines by forward Mary Fowler and defender Aivi Luik tomorrow after the pair got injured in training.

The co-hosts’ media team revealed today that Fowler and Luik sustained mild concussions in separate incidents during training and have been ruled out.

Although Fowler and Luik have both fully recovered, they cannot face the nine-time African champions as they are undergoing Football Australia’s Graduated Return to Play protocol.

Manchester City forward Fowler started the win over Ireland and featured for 84 minutes, while Luik was an unused substitute.

Australia will be looking to seal their spot in the round of 16 with victory over Nigeria in Brisbane, while the Super Falcons will be aiming to follow up their impressive 0-0 draw against Olympic champions Canada with a win.
