UCL: Lazio’s Provedel emulates Enyeama, Barca trounce Antwerp as City, Zaidu’s Porto win

LAZIO goalkeeper Ivan Provedel scored a stunning late equaliser in his side’s UEFA Champions League home clash against Atletico Madrid to emulate former Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama.

Provedel headed home the leveller in the fifth minute of stoppage time to force a 1-1 draw in the Group E encounter at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

With the goal, the Italy international became the first goalkeeper to score a Champions League goal since former Nigeria international Enyeama netted for Hapoel Tel Aviv against Lyon in 2010.

While Enyeama’s goal was from the penalty (although not during a shootout) Provedel is only the second goalkeeper in Champions League history to score a non-penalty goal.

Also in a busy Champions League schedule tonight, Barcelona demolished Royal Antwerp 5-0 at Camp Nou, with Nigerian midfielder Alhassan Yusuf a 60th minute substitute for the Belgian visitors.

Roberto Lewandowski scored his 100th Champions League goal while Joao Felix struck twice to take Barca to the top of Group H, ahead of FC Porto on goal difference.

The Portuguese side eased past their hosts Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1 at their borrowed home of Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, Germany.

Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi started for Porto but was taken off at half-time as Wenderson Galeno netted twice.

Champions Manchester City recovered from a goal down to defeat Red Star Belgrade at the Etihad Stadium, Argentina World Cup winner Julian Alvarez bagging a brace after Ghanaian star Osman Bukari had given the visitors a shock first-half lead.

Manchester City are now unbeaten in their last 14 Champions League games, their last defeat coming two seasons ago in the semi-finals, away to Real Madrid.

They are tied at the top of Group G with RB Leipzig, who defeated Young Boys 3-1 in the evening kick-off.

In Group F, Kylian Mbappe and Achraf Hakimi struck in the second half to give Paris Saint-Germain a 2-0 home win over Borussia Dortmund, while Feyenoord beat Celtic by the same margin in Group E.

Earlier, AC Milan missed a slew of chances as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Newcastle United.
