VICTOR Osimhen is a major doubt for the friendly between the Super Eagles and Mozambique in Portimao, Portugal on Monday due to an injury.

The Napoli striker was taken off last night 13 minutes into the second half of the 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia after suffering a knock.

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro said the substitution of Osimhen was to prevent an aggravation of the knock, with the 24-year-old to have a scan to assess the extent of damage.

“Victor has gone for an MRI scan to check the situation. We have good coordination and communication with the clubs,” Peseiro explained after the match in Portimao, Portugal.

“I don’t know if you know this but we send reports to the clubs at the end of each match.

“We have connections with the physiotherapists and the coach, all of them.”

Peseiro might not risk Osimhen against Mozambique on Monday as the coach acknowledged the star striker’s importance to both club and country.

“Our responsibility is to control the health of our players. He is a fantastic player, Napoli need him and we need him also,” the Portuguese coach noted.

“It is our responsibility to do everything, to speak with the doctor for Osimhen. And also to call the clinicals to check if he can play or not.

“But in three days, we would put Osimhen on time watch. And if there’s no improvement, the club will make the necessary decisions.

“At this moment, it is my opinion, will I go and put in a player with an injury?

“A month’s injury, or even two? It is better to put it in his mind now. He is going to do the test and check.

“And if it does not improve, you must expect the club to make the final decisions.

“The club pays the salary for him and not only for Osimhen but for our players.”
