JOSE Mourinho is expected to leave as manager of AS Roma at the end of this season, according to reports in Italy.
The Portuguese coach is in his third year at the Serie A club having taken over at the beginning of the 2021/2022 season.
Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports for Sky Sports Italia and his own personal website, claimed today that the Portuguese coach has made up his mind to leave Roma at the end of his contract in June.
Mourinho penned a three-year deal with the club in 2021, so his current agreement with them expires at the end of the season.
Speaking about Mourinho’s possible contract extension with Roma today, Di Marzio said: “It won’t happen.
“There are no negotiations ongoing, there have never been. So they’ll part company at the end of the deal in June.”
Mourinho led Roma to lift the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League trophy in 2022 and the final of the UEFA Europa League this season, where they lost to Sevilla on penalties.
Some clubs in oil-rich Saudi Arabia had been linked with hiring the former Chelsea and Inter Milan manger last summer, but Mourinho decided to stay at the Stadio Olimpico.
However, the 60-year-old coach has recently claimed he will consider working with a Saudi club one day.
“Surely, once Mourinho will be free, they [Saudi clubs] will try again,” Di Marzio added.
“It remains to be seen what Mourinho thinks about his future. Whether he wants to coach a new European club or go there [to Saudi Arabia].”
Mourinho has won 59 of his 119 matches in charge of Roma in all competitions, just shy of a 50 percent win rate.
The outspoken coach has hardly stayed beyond three years at a club, lasting just about that long at Chelsea in each of two spells, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
