VICTOR Osimhen has tipped his Super Eagles teammate Victor Boniface for greatness while speaking fondly of his former manager at Napoli, Luciano Spalletti.

Osimhen is the established centre forward in the Nigeria national team having scored 20 goals in 27 appearances, with Boniface only recently getting called up following his rise in Europe in the last one year.

The 22-year-old Boniface is one of the most in-form strikers in Europe at the moment, registering nine goals and four assists in his first 11 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen.

He had caught the attention of the German club with his impressive performances for Belgium’s Union St Gilloise, where he scored 17 goals and assisted 12 in 51 appearances before leaving for €20.5 million in July.

Osimhen, who is currently injured but has already scored six goals this season for Napoli, believes his compatriot will continue to make progress.

“I saw the clips of him and he has a bright future ahead of him,” Osimhen, 24, said during an appearance on a Twitch show hosted by former Inter Milan and Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli.

“He will achieve great goals, I also spoke to him in the national team and I think he can have an important future.”

Osimhen also spoke about current Italy manager Spalletti, who guided the Nigerian and other Napoli stars to the club’s first Serie A title in 33 years last season before quitting.

“He transformed my way of playing, he is a genius,” the Super Eagles star said.

“He asks a lot of his players, but he gives it back too. Italy are on the right track with him.”
