ALEJANDRO Garnacho scored a contender for Premier League Goal of the Season tonight to inspire Manchester United to a 3-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park.
It was Everton’s first game since they were punished with a 10-point deduction for financial breaches but it was the visitors who took all three points on offer with ruthless efficiency in front of goal.
Garnacho opened the scoring with a sensational strike in the third minute, with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial rounding off the victory in the second half.
The move that led to Garnacho’s incredible goal was simple.
Diogo Dalot received the ball from Rashford out wide and delivered a cross into the box. Garnacho took two steps back before leaping into the sky and unleashing a perfect bicycle kick which flew past Jordan Pickford into the net.
The goal was the only chance that Manchester United created in the first half and Everton were wasteful, missing several great opportunities to level up.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was Everton’s main culprit in their rash of missed chances, and the impressive 18-year-old United midfielder Kobbi Mainoo also made a goalline clearance.
Everton were made to pay for their numerous misses as Ashley Young was adjudged to have fouled Martial in the box after a VAR review and Rashford converted the penalty in the 56th minute.
Martial then finished off a fine team move 15 minutes from time for United’s third as they rose to sixth place in the Premier League table, while Everton are in the 19th position, five points from safety.
