FLYING Eagles head coach Ladan Bosso has included several players from the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in his 20-man squad for the African Games men’s football event in Ghana.
Goalkeeper Nathaniel Nwosu, captain and defender Daniel Bameyi, midfielder Daniel Daga and forward Kehinde Ibrahim were all at the World Cup when the Flying Eagles reached the quarter-finals in Argentina last June.
The four are also in the African Games squad, joined by the likes of forwards Charles Agada, Olalekan Ibrahim, Nasir Muhammed and Sunday Joseph as well as defenders Musa Abdullahi and Godwin Sampson, and midfielders Favour Izuogu and Ibrahim Idris.
The Flying Eagles will face Uganda, South Sudan, Senegal and Tunisia in Group B of the men’s football event starting on Thursday, with the Nigeria squad scheduled to depart from Abuja tomorrow.
The matches will take place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon.
Hosts Ghana, Congo, Benin Republic and The Gambia are the teams in Group A, with the Accra Sports Stadium as venue.
Nigeria emerged runners-up of the men’s football event of the 12th African Games held in Rabat, Morocco in October 2019, losing to Burkina Faso in the final.
