THE All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has announced its timetable for selecting a gubernatorial candidate for the November 16, 2024 election.

The party will begin selling nomination forms on April 3 and end on April 10, with the primary election scheduled for April 25, 2024.

The cost of the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms is set at N10m and N40m respectively.

Female aspirants and persons with disabilities only need to pay for the Expression of Interest form, while the Nomination Form is free for them.

Additionally, youths aged 25 to 40 are eligible for a 50% discount on Nomination Forms.

Notable contenders for the APC ticket in Ondo include Aiyedatiwa, a former Ondo deputy governor, succeeded the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who died on December 27, 2023. Wale Akinterinwa, the state’s former Commissioner of Finance, and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who represents Ondo South.

Due to litigation and judicial decisions, governorship elections in Ondo and Edo are held outside of the regular election season. Others include Anambra, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, and Osun.

Political rivals are already squaring off in the two states where governorship elections will take place this year. 19 political parties are anticipated to submit candidates, but polls, like previous ones, will result in two- or three-horse fights.
