FORMER football star Ibrahim Babangida will be buried today barely 24 hours after he died at the age of 47, according to Muslim rites.
The younger brother of former Super Eagles winger Tijani Babangida died yesterday in a fatal car accident in Kaduna, according to reports.
The car crash also affected Tijani, his wife, son and maid, who were all rushed to the hospital, The Punch reported.
Emmanuel Babayaro, another ex-international whose brother Celestine was also a former Super Eagles star, broke the news of Ibrahim Babangida’s death last night and noted that he would be buried this afternoon.
Ibrahim was not as accomplished as his Atlanta ’96 Olympics gold-winning elder brother Tijani, but he also featured for Nigerian national teams, winning the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup title with the Golden Eaglets, and played in Europe with modest Dutch club Volendam before retiring in 2002.
