Olowookere invites Flamingos’ World Cup stars, others for WAFU Girls Cup

FLAMINGOS head coach Bankole Olowookere has called up 25 players to camp ahead of the WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup scheduled for Ghana from December 12 to December 26.

The squad is made up of mostly players that reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic few weeks ago, and also won the FIFA Fair Play Trophy of the competition.

The Flamingos lost 2-0 to eventual bronze medallists USA in the quarter-finals.

Top of the list is midfielder Shakirat Moshood, who scored four goals at the tournament.

First-choice goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma, defenders Taiwo Adegoke, Jumai Adebayo and Prisca Nwachukwu, midfielder Farida Abdulwahab, and forwards Harmony Chidi, Peace Effiong and Janet Akekoromowei are also invited.

The Flamingos have been drawn in Group B of the two-week, six-team competition, alongside Cote d’Ivoire and Niger Republic.

Hosts Ghana are in Group A with Burkina Faso and Benin Republic.

The Nigeria Football Federation expects all invited players to report at the Remo Stars Sports Institute, Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State on Tuesday.
