THE Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that 44 people lost their lives in a coordinated attack on multiple communities within Shanga Local Government Area.

The affected villages include Gebe, Kalkami, Kawara, Kasoshi, Awaye, Tungar Rini, Binuwa, and Dabe.

In response to the incident, the command announced the commencement of a statewide clearance operation.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, the move follows directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, aimed at curbing further banditry and violent crimes across the state.

Security forces, including police and other agencies, have been heavily deployed to the affected areas, restoring a degree of calm.

Authorities have also begun discreet investigations into the attack.

The clearance operation is focused on high-risk zones such as farmlands, forests, border communities, and remote settlements.

It includes coordinated patrols, intelligence-driven stop-and-search efforts, and joint operations with other security outfits.

As part of the ongoing efforts, two AK-47 rifles were recovered along the Illo-Kamba axis, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing.

The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, urged residents to remain alert and support security agencies with timely and credible information.

He also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, religious groups, and youths to collaborate with authorities in restoring peace and strengthening security across Kebbi State.
