THE Presidency has clarified that former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, resigned of their own accord rather than being dismissed from office.

In a statement released today, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, explained that Edun stepped down due to health concerns. His resignation came ahead of the President’s announcement of a replacement yesterday.

Onanuga noted that Dangiwa also voluntarily exited the Federal Executive Council, expressing appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve.

Following their departures, Edun was instructed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, while Dangiwa was directed to transfer responsibilities to Muttaqha Rabe Darma.

According to the statement, Edun who turned 70 on Monday and has reportedly been dealing with health challenges submitted his resignation letter on his birthday.

In it, he expressed gratitude to the President, describing his time in office as both a privilege and an honour, and commended the administration’s progress under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Presidency further disclosed that Edun paid a farewell visit to President Tinubu yesterday, holding a meeting that lasted about an hour before stepping away from public duties to focus on personal matters.

Dangiwa, an architect, previously served as Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria from 2015 to 2022 and was Secretary to the Katsina State Government before his ministerial appointment in August 2023.

Edun, an economist and investment banker, earlier served as Lagos State Commissioner for Finance between 1999 and 2004 during Tinubu’s tenure as governor.

His career also includes roles at Chase Merchant Bank and the World Bank, as well as co-founding Investment Banking & Trust Company Limited (now Stanbic IBTC).

He later established Denham Management Limited, now part of the Chapelhill Denham Group.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to both former ministers for their contributions, particularly to the administration’s economic reform efforts, and wished them success in their future pursuits.

The President has also tasked Oyedele with advancing ongoing fiscal reforms, while the nomination of Darma as Minister of Housing and Urban Development will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
