THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to conduct its 2026 presidential primary through a direct voting process, allowing all registered members of the party across the country to participate.
According to guidelines released by the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the primary election is scheduled to take place on May 24, 2026, across the nation’s 8,809 wards.
The APC stated that every registered party member would be eligible to vote for their preferred presidential aspirant during the exercise.
The party explained that results from the wards would be collated at the local government level before final transmission to the national collation centre in Abuja.
The party also revealed that designated state coordinators and collation officers would oversee the process in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The guidelines further noted that previously issued procedures for the conduct of direct and consensus primaries, which were submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on May 15, 2026, would also guide the presidential primary process.
Former Senate President Senator Pius Anyim was appointed chairman of the Presidential Primary Election Committee.
Other members of the committee include former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, former Deputy Governor Grace Titi Laoye-Ponle, Yakubu Dogara and Idris Wada, while Senator Sanusi Musa will serve as secretary.
The APC also constituted a Presidential Primary Election Appeal Committee headed by former Senate Leader Senator Ali Ndume. Samuel Pwajok will serve as secretary, while Patricia Etteh was named as a member.
In addition, several serving and former governors were appointed as coordinators and collation officers for various states.
Among them is Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who recently withdrew from the party’s governorship primary.
Other appointees include Hope Uzodimma, Umo Eno, Douye Diri, Hyacinth Alia, Babagana Zulum, Sheriff Oborevwori, Francis Nwifuru, Monday Okpebholo, Peter Mbah, Umar Namadi, Uba Sani, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mohammed Umar Bago, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Caleb Mutfwang, Agbu Kefas, Dauda Lawal and former Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
Part of the document signed by APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru stated that state coordinators and collation officers would be responsible for organising and supervising the direct primary process in their respective states before presenting collated results to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja on May 24, 2026.
