TROOPS of the Joint Task Force North-East under Operation Hadin Kai have recorded fresh successes in ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the North-East, rescuing kidnapped civilians, neutralising terrorists, and receiving more surrendering relatives of insurgents.
According to a statement issued today by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the operation, troops conducting offensive missions in the Amuda area rescued two abductees from the Ngoshe community in Borno State.
The victims, identified as 20-year-old Maryam Muhammad and her one-year-old son, Bello Muhammad, were among those kidnapped during a terrorist attack on Ngoshe on March 3, 2026.
Military authorities said the pair had been held in a terrorist camp within the Mandara Mountains but managed to escape after sustained military bombardments forced their captors to flee.
Following medical checks, both victims were reunited with their families through community leaders in Ngoshe.
In separate operations carried out around Wulgo, Gumsari and Hausari, troops working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force discovered evidence of terrorist activity, including a makeshift medical facility stocked with transfusion materials and antibiotics, ammunition, and a uniform belonging to a terrorist commander.
During the operation, one terrorist was killed, while no casualties were recorded among the troops.
The military also reported an increase in the number of insurgents’ family members abandoning terrorist enclaves and surrendering to security forces.
Among them was 50-year-old Ghwa’a Biwa, who escaped from a camp in the Mandara Mountains and surrendered to troops in the Gwoza axis, citing sustained military pressure and poor living conditions within the camps.
Similarly, 19-year-old Binta Umaru and her two-year-old daughter, Hafsat Ibrahim, fled another terrorist hideout in the mountains and surrendered to troops along the Gwoza–Limankara road.
Military authorities stated that all surrendered individuals have been screened and are undergoing further profiling in accordance with established procedures.
The Joint Task Force said the latest developments demonstrate the effectiveness of ongoing military offensives and indicate a gradual weakening of terrorist networks and support structures in the North-East, particularly around the Mandara Mountains and surrounding border communities.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on insurgents, rescuing abducted civilians, and restoring peace, security, and economic stability across the region.
Senior military authorities also commended troops for their performance and encouraged them to maintain the momentum of ongoing operations.
