REAL Madrid have officially announced the appointment of Jose Mourinho as the club’s head coach.
The Portuguese coach is returning to the Spanish giants for a second spell 13 years after he left.
“The Board of Directors of Real Madrid CF, meeting today Thursday, June 11, and chaired by Florentino Pérez, has agreed to appoint José Mourinho as first team coach for the next three seasons, until June 30, 2029,” the club stated.
“José Mourinho will join Real Madrid on July 13, the day the preseason begins.”
Mourinho has left Benfica to seal his Real Madrid comeback, with the Portuguese club confirming that they received a hefty compensation for the 63-year-old.
“Benfica SAD has informed the CMVM (Portuguese Securities Market Commission) that Real Madrid CF has formalised its intention to hire José Mourinho for €15 million, and the coach has given his agreement,” the club announced last night.
“Thank you, José Mourinho.”
Former Chelsea, Inter Milan and Manchester United boss Mourinho spent three years, from 2010 to 2013, in his first spell at Real Madrid, winning them a LaLiga title in 2012 as well as the Copa del Rey the year before.
