THE Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the Katsina State Police Command to strengthen security around schools across the state to protect students, teachers and educational facilities from potential threats.
The directive was conveyed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Sulaiman Abdul, during a two-day operational visit to Katsina State.
Speaking during the visit, Abdul said the police command had been instructed to intensify surveillance activities, increase patrols around schools, improve intelligence gathering and maintain a visible security presence in educational institutions across the state.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at preventing criminal activities, enhancing emergency response capabilities and ensuring that schools remain safe spaces for teaching and learning.
As part of the security assessment exercise, the deputy inspector-general visited the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi Local Government Area to evaluate existing security measures and infrastructure.
During the inspection, he assessed perimeter fencing, access points, security posts and the deployment of personnel assigned to safeguard the schools.
Abdul also held separate meetings with school administrators and management teams to gain firsthand insight into the security challenges confronting the institutions.
The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between educational authorities and security agencies, improving school safety protocols and enhancing preparedness against potential threats.
He urged school managements to implement stricter access-control measures, remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities within and around school premises to security agencies.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the protection of educational institutions, Abdul said the force remains dedicated to ensuring that students and teachers can carry out their activities in a safe and secure environment.
