THE Edo State House of Assembly has passed a bill repealing the Edo State College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Law, 2019, clearing the path for the establishment of the Edo State College of Agriculture, Science and Technology.
The legislation was approved today following a clause-by-clause review by the Committee of the Whole House.
After adopting the committee’s report, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku directed the Clerk of the House to forward the final copies of the bill to Governor Monday Okpebholo for assent.
The proposed law outlines the legal framework for the new institution, including its commencement date, governance structure, Academic Board, financial arrangements, and other administrative provisions required for its operation.
During deliberations, lawmakers also adopted an amendment introduced by Kaycee Osamwonyi Atu and seconded by Sunday Ojiezele.
The amendment incorporates the First Schedule, contained on pages 26 and 27 of the bill, to support the effective implementation of the legislation.
At the same plenary session, the House received a letter from Governor Okpebholo, dated June 26, 2026, requesting the confirmation of Martins Anayochukwu Oli as a commissioner-designate.
The Speaker referred the nomination to the House Standing Committee on Government House, Rules and Business for screening, directing the committee to submit its report within two weeks.
In a related matter, Agbebaku sympathised with residents affected by the recent heavy rainfall across Edo State, noting that the flooding destroyed at least five houses and caused property losses valued at millions of naira. He assured affected communities of swift government intervention.
The Speaker also extended the Assembly’s condolences to the families of children who lost their lives during the devastating rainfall in Lagos on Monday.
The House adjourned plenary until Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
