The Federal Government has expressed profound sorrow over the death of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Father Amir and former Emir of the State of Qatar.
Sheikh Hamad, who ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and is widely credited with spearheading the country’s rapid transformation and modernization, reportedly died on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and signed by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria described the late leader as a visionary statesman whose legacy extended far beyond Qatar’s borders.
The ministry said Sheikh Hamad’s leadership played a pivotal role in shaping modern Qatar and strengthening the country’s position on the global stage.
