THE governor of Niger State, Umaru Bago has reaffirmed Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This was revealed today at the Government House in Minna, where Governor Bago appealed for calm and urged political, religious, and community leaders to avoid actions or statements capable of creating tension in the state.
Addressing his deputy, Bago encouraged Garba to embrace all groups and individuals, including those who had called for his replacement, stressing the importance of forgiveness, unity, and peaceful coexistence.
The governor also urged political stakeholders to promote peace, particularly as both Niger State and the country continue to face security challenges.
He warned against inflammatory remarks and political actions that could destabilize the state’s peaceful atmosphere.
Congratulating Garba on his nomination, Bago advised him not to take the opposition to his candidacy personally but instead work with all stakeholders to foster unity, peace, and development across Niger State.
The announcement comes amid recent debates and agitations surrounding the deputy governorship slot ahead of the 2027 general elections.
