Rapper and actor Falz has criticised the Federal Government’s handling of national priorities, questioning its spending decisions amid worsening insecurity while dismissing the First Lady’s suggestion that the government is under excessive pressure and needs more support from young Nigerians.
Speaking during a recent interview on Arise TV, the entertainer argued that creating more foundations would do little to address the country’s pressing challenges.
“Is that the solution to our problems? More foundations? It’s absurd. It’s absurd,” he said.
Falz also faulted what he described as the government’s misplaced spending priorities, noting that significant resources had been allocated to luxury acquisitions while insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods.
“If you look at what has been spent on acquiring new vehicles, acquiring jets and all these things, then compare that with what has actually been done about insecurity and the challenges we are facing, you have to ask: what are your priorities?” he said. “You’re out here talking to individuals. This is actually your job to do. It’s wild.”
Reacting to the First Lady’s recent remarks that the pressure on the government is overwhelming and that younger Nigerians should lend their support, Falz insisted that public office comes with responsibility and accountability.
“What do you mean by pressure on the government? Did anyone beg you to take up this role?” he asked.
The award-winning rapper also aimed the administration’s campaign slogan, “E mi l’okan” (“It is my turn”), arguing that it reflected a deliberate quest for leadership and should not now be followed by complaints about the demands of governance.
“Do you know what that translates to in English? It is my turn. I’ve never seen anything more absurd than that in my entire life,” he said.
He added, “That means from day one that you set out on your political journey, this is the day you have been waiting for. So how can you say the pressure is too much now? This is the responsibility you sought.”
