THE Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will hold the hearing of Senegal’s appeal of the decision stripping the country of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title on October 8, the adjudication body has announced.
CAS noted that the hearing will take place behind closed doors at its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
However, the court clarified that the final decision will not be made on the day of the hearing, adding that it cannot state when the ruling will be delivered.
“CAS confirms a hearing has been scheduled for the procedure between the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) concerning the final of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 (AFCON 2025),” sport’s highest court said today.
“Registered by CAS on 25 March 2026, the FSF appeal seeks to set aside a CAF decision declaring that the Senegal national team forfeited the AFCON 2025 final and recording the Moroccan national team as the winners of the match by 3-0.
“The appeal requests that CAS declare the FSF winners of AFCON 2025.”
Senegal had beaten Morocco 1-0 in the final in Rabat in February after the Teranga Lions had initially staged a walkout over a contentious penalty awarded to the hosts.
CAF then sanctioned Senegal with bans and heavy fines, but Morocco appealed and the continental body’s appeals board ruled March to strip the West Africans of the title and award it to Morocco.
Disagreeing with the verdict as expected, Senegal lodged an appeal with CAS, whose decisions are final.
