THE Nigerian judiciary has suffered a significant loss as two judges died within hours of each other.
The judges were said to have been unwell for a short time.
In a statement signed today by the NBA’s publicity secretary, Habeeb Akorede Lawal the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), an umbrella group of lawyers, described Justice Nweze as an astute and erudite jurist.
The association said, “His lordship’s numerous decisions have shaped, impacted and developed our law and jurisprudence. He was a disciplined, hardworking, and courageous judicial officer.”
They expressed their condolences to Nigeria’s Chief Justice, Justice Kayode Ariwoola, the whole Nigerian judiciary, the government and people of Enugu State, Justice Nweze’s friends and family, and prayed that the Almighty God console them.
Justice Nweze has issued numerous significant rulings, including the dissenting opinion in the 2020 appeal filed by former Imo State governor Emeka Ihedioha against Hope Uzodimma.
Justice Nweze was born on September 25, 1958, in Obollo, Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu State.
He was a practicing Christian who was married to Hon Justice Ugonne Jacinta Nweze of the Enugu State Judiciary. Their union is blessed with five children and one grandchild.
Meanwhile, the Chief Registar of FHC, Hassan Amida Sulaiman, announced the sudden death of Mallong in a statement he made available to newsmen this morning.
It reads: “It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of our own , Hon. Justice Peter Mallong, a judge of the Federal High Court, who passed away on Sunday unexpectedly after a brief illness in Abuja.
“We will miss him more than words can express.
“Funeral arrangements will be communicated to the public in due time.”
Justice Mallong, who is from Plateau, was born Jan. 21 1963 in Yauri, Kebbi .
